Leadership

President & CEO

Steve VanNurdenFollowing an extensive national search, Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority named Steve VanNurden as its new
President and Chief Executive Officer in March 2012. He took over the office in late May 2012. The appointment of VanNurden is further evidence of the FRA’s continued commitment to support the development of life science companies in Colorado in partnership with the State’s research institutions. He is working with universities, local economic development agencies, state and local governments, and the bioscience industry to promote the successful development of the 180 acre Colorado Science + Technology Park, which is adjacent to the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. VanNurden came to the FRA from Mayo Clinic Ventures, the invention arm for Mayo Clinic. Under his direction, this division was responsible for patenting and commercializing Mayo’s discoveries, inventions and other intellectual property. Under the guidance of VanNurden, Mayo’s technology based ventures efforts resulted in the formation of 45+ Mayo Clinic start-up companies. Prior to joining the Mayo Clinic, VanNurden’s industry experience included management positions at Cargill, Inc., US Bank, and Aerodrome Airline Services, Inc. VanNurden holds degrees in Accounting and Finance and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Real Estate Projects

JohnMShawIn May, 2014, the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority selected John M. Shaw as a consultant to oversee its real estate projects at the Fitzsimons Innovation Campus. Shaw’s extensive track record of successful real estate development projects makes him the ideal partner to continue the FRA’s vision to build a world class life science district at Fitzsimons.

Over his career, Shaw managed the development of more than 20 million square feet of commercial properties throughout the western United States. He recently left his position as Executive Vice President of McWhinney, a Colorado-based development company with significant assets in Loveland, Broomfield and Denver.
